Useful insights on Entrance Exams for Dental Courses After 12th in India

To pursue a dental course in India, you are required to give an entrance examination. If you are looking for dental courses after 12th, here is a useful read on some of the common entrance exams for dental courses.

  1. NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test): NEET is the most important entrance exam for admission to dental (BDS) and medical (MBBS) courses in India. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It is mandatory for all students aspiring to pursue dental education in India. Previously, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) was responsible for conducting the test, but now it is overseen by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

To be eligible for medical courses, candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology as compulsory subjects in both Class 10th and 12th, and they must have passed these subjects. During the counselling round, candidates are required to present their passing certificates.

  2. AIPMT (All India Pre-Medical Test): AIPMT was the predecessor to NEET and used to be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). However, after the introduction of NEET, AIPMT has been merged with NEET.

  3. State-level Entrance Exams: Various states in India conduct their own entrance exams for admission to dental courses. Some examples include MHT-CET (Maharashtra), AP EAMCET (Andhra Pradesh), KCET (Karnataka), and WBJEE (West Bengal). Gujarat, like many other states in India, conducts its own entrance exam for admission to dental courses. The specific entrance exam conducted in Gujarat is known as the Gujarat Common Entrance Test for Admission to Medical and Dental Courses (GUJCET). GUJCET is organised by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB). GUJCET is a state-level examination that allows aspiring students to seek admission to dental (BDS) and medical (MBBS) courses offered by various dental and medical colleges in Gujarat. It evaluates the candidates’ knowledge in subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics. Students who wish to pursue dental courses in Gujarat must appear for the GUJCET and secure a qualifying score to be eligible for admission. The exam pattern, syllabus, and other details of GUJCET are determined by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) and are specific to the state of Gujarat.
